Shakespeare Vs. Modern Text and Movies

When reading a play by Shakespeare  it is very different than reading a novel from modern times. Shakespeare has written his plays like poems. He incorporates many metaphors in his play that people are constantly despairing. A novel is what people grow up learning how to read, modern text is easy to read but Shakespearean text is harder to read but with practice it gets easier. A movie also helps understand what is happening in the play. A movie helps understand a play, but the movie is not always accurate to the actual play. A movie helps understand a play, but it is no substitute for the real thing.

Malvolio

Malvolio is a character who is in the secondary plot of Shakespeare’ play, Twelfth Night. He is seen as an enimy to most of the people in the play. Malvolio is a man who seems to not like having fun or join in the act of playfulness. At first we meet Malvolio talking to Sir Toby and Sir Andrew, he is trying to calm them down and tell them that they should not be so loud. "Is there no respect of place, persons, nor time in you?" (Shakespeare II, iii) He was almost talking down to them. Olivia over heard him, and came out after Malvolio left, she was going to make Malvolio look like a fool for what he had done. "Dost thou think, because thou art virtuous, there shall be no more cakes and ale?" (Shakespere II, iii) Sir Toby and Sir Andrew made fun of him and mocked him for is selfishness.  Malvolio is a very gullible person. Olivia lied to Malvolio saying that she loved when he wears his yellow stalking. He wore them whenever he could and he looked like a fool. Malvolio also wants to be count, and Olivia gives him a letter saying that it could happen, he goes around trying to impress Olivia, but all he is doing is making a fool of himself. "My purpose is, indeed, a horse of that colour" (Shakespeare II, iii). Not everyone thinks that malvollio should be made a fool for what he has done; Maria tries to stop it. Malvolio is a very gullible person in Twelfth Night and he is very arrogant and he is punished for that.

New Year's Resolution

This year for my new year’s resolution, I want to become the best that I can be at an academic level and an athletic level. For this final semester of my junior year I want to receive all A’s on my final semester average for all my classes. I need to work harder on my study habits and I will need to improve them if there is a flaw. My second goal is to become the best discus thrower the school has ever seen and break the all time record. I will need to use all my determination this new year.

This year I want to get straight A’s for my final semester grades. This will not be easy for me; I will need to improve on my study habits and adapt them to my different subjects. I will probably need to edit them throughout the year because if something does not work, then I will immediately fix it before it gets worse. After an academically painful year last year, I plan to start fresh and be the best that I can be at school.

This year I also want to work on becoming the best discus thrower the school has ever seen. I want to break the school record of about one hundred and fifty feet. I started working out last summer in preparation for this year. I started in seventh grade and a year later I came in second in the district meet, I lost by a foot. Last year because of my suffering grades, I had the put my discus aside and focus on my grades, but this year I will rekindle my skill and become the best the school has ever seen. I plan to improve my actions form last year, and become the best at what I do this year.

I've always wanted to live in...

From the most southern state in the continental United States, where it is always hot, sticky, and hummed, all the time. Where the hot scolding sun beating down on you. Where it never gets below a room temperature of seventy two. From Florida I would move to Seattle. I Would move across the entire country to the most north western state in the continental United States to Washington, to Seattle. Seattle is an amazing place to live and it is also very beautiful. The city of seattle is full of amazing mountains that are topped with snow that looks like somebody just sprinkled powdered sugar onto. The city of Seattle is surrounded by blue, sparkeling water on three sides. People use this water to travel on fairies to work almost every day. Looking out from the city over the water, there is nothing over the water but more of those amazing sugar topped mountains. On both sides of the city are the suburbs full of old homes that are yet still very modern. The main reason I want to move to Seattle is that fact that Boeing, the company that makes passenger airplanes, tests there amazing, big, high populated aircrafts over the city. I want to move to Seattle with all my heart.

The line “ We'll be glowing in the dark” refers to this style; it is also a metaphor to havingfun, being the life of the party, and is the best you can be. In thealliteration and anaphoric lyrics “All the boys, all the girls, and madness inthe world, all the highs, all the lows” refers to all the problems in the worldand all the people just letting go and having fun.
“Charlie Brown” refers to thestyle Coldplay is currently in, the pop culture graphite look. The high pitchof the song and the loud guitar refers to the bright, vibrant, neon colors. Thewhole song is one big party, with metaphors referring to “let loose” andletting all the troubles and fears disappear and have fun, be the life of theparty. French Revolution Journal Entry.

The past few years have been horrible. Most of the people are poor and can't afford most of their food and they can't support their family. Some people are so poor that they can not even buy our main source of diet, bread. The people are starting to get very fed up with the monarch, who doesn't do anything but stay in Versailles and have parties. They are ignoring our problems and don't even care about us. This has been going on for too long and we finally attacked against the government. A few months ago, most of the peasants went to the Bastille in the middle of France, and tore it down, one brick at a time. We destroyed the building and claimed the city of Paris in our name and let the monarchs know that this is our city, and they can not mess with us. Hopefully the government will hear our struggles and maybe they will think of doing some changes to help us.

An Epic Hero, Odysseus

In one of Homer's great epic poem, The Odyssey, Odysseus is considered an epic hero because of his traits and actions given to him by Homer. In The Odyssey, Odysseus must find his way back home to Sunny, Ithica from Troy, where he fought in the Trojan war. In his journey Odysseus is put through a number of obstacles and challenges in order to get home, he goes through some of these challenges alone and some of them with his crew. He is also one of the most intelligent person in his society, this also follows him into battles and challenges, such as the time when he and his men were in the cave with the Cyclopes named Polyphemus. He can also overcomes obstacles, such as when he is on the ship with his crew and he was the only one to hear the tantalizing Sirens.

One of the ways Odysseus is considered to be an epic hero is because he is put through a number of challenges in his journey home. Challenges such as when he and some of his crew were in the cave with the cyclops Polyphemus. The men were trapped and the cyclopes began the eat them. Odysseus knew he was going to be eaten soon so he devised a plan. Odysseus took a spear from the cave and lashed it into the one eye the cyclops Polyphemus had. The cyclopes was blinded  he could not see where Odysseus, or the rest of his men were. The men escaped and survived, Odysseus had a successful challenge on his part. Challenges such as this is one part of what makes Odysseus an epic hero. Odysseus is a wise man, and he uses his wisdom to overcome challenges or obstacles.
