I've always wanted to live in...

From the most southern state in the continental United States, where it is always hot, sticky, and hummed, all the time. Where the hot scolding sun beating down on you. Where it never gets below a room temperature of seventy two. From Florida I would move to Seattle. I Would move across the entire country to the most north western state in the continental United States to Washington, to Seattle. Seattle is an amazing place to live and it is also very beautiful. The city of seattle is full of amazing mountains that are topped with snow that looks like somebody just sprinkled powdered sugar onto. The city of Seattle is surrounded by blue, sparkeling water on three sides. People use this water to travel on fairies to work almost every day. Looking out from the city over the water, there is nothing over the water but more of those amazing sugar topped mountains. On both sides of the city are the suburbs full of old homes that are yet still very modern. The main reason I want to move to Seattle is that fact that Boeing, the company that makes passenger airplanes, tests there amazing, big, high populated aircrafts over the city. I want to move to Seattle with all my heart.

French Revolution Journal Entry.

The past few years have been horrible. Most of the people are poor and can't afford most of their food and they can't support their family. Some people are so poor that they can not even buy our main source of diet, bread. The people are starting to get very fed up with the monarch, who doesn't do anything but stay in Versailles and have parties. They are ignoring our problems and don't even care about us. This has been going on for too long and we finally attacked against the government. A few months ago, most of the peasants went to the Bastille in the middle of France, and tore it down, one brick at a time. We destroyed the building and claimed the city of Paris in our name and let the monarchs know that this is our city, and they can not mess with us. Hopefully the government will hear our struggles and maybe they will think of doing some changes to help us.

An Epic Hero, Odysseus

In one of Homer's great epic poem, The Odyssey, Odysseus is considered an epic hero because of his traits and actions given to him by Homer. In The Odyssey, Odysseus must find his way back home to Sunny, Ithica from Troy, where he fought in the Trojan war. In his journey Odysseus is put through a number of obstacles and challenges in order to get home, he goes through some of these challenges alone and some of them with his crew. He is also one of the most intelligent person in his society, this also follows him into battles and challenges, such as the time when he and his men were in the cave with the Cyclopes named Polyphemus. He can also overcomes obstacles, such as when he is on the ship with his crew and he was the only one to hear the tantalizing Sirens.

One of the ways Odysseus is considered to be an epic hero is because he is put through a number of challenges in his journey home. Challenges such as when he and some of his crew were in the cave with the cyclops Polyphemus. The men were trapped and the cyclopes began the eat them. Odysseus knew he was going to be eaten soon so he devised a plan. Odysseus took a spear from the cave and lashed it into the one eye the cyclops Polyphemus had. The cyclopes was blinded  he could not see where Odysseus, or the rest of his men were. The men escaped and survived, Odysseus had a successful challenge on his part. Challenges such as this is one part of what makes Odysseus an epic hero. Odysseus is a wise man, and he uses his wisdom to overcome challenges or obstacles.

The Qualities of Odysseus

In Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey, the main character, Odysseus has many heroic traits. Homer depicts Odysseus by giving him traits that make him a good hero. These traits and qualities help Odysseus through his journey of returning home from the Trojan war, where he fought, to his home town of Sunny in the country of Ithaca. Homer gives Odysseus the quality of wisdom, which helps him through his journey home. Homer also gives Odysseus pride which turns out to be Odysseus's hamartia, which is his fatal flaw.
In The Odyssey, an epic poem written by Homer, Odysseus is one of the wisest men in his journey home. In one instance where Odysseus was wise was when he he and his men were on the island of the Lotus-eaters. Odysseus tried to stop his men, but they ate the lotus fruit, which tasted like honey. The men instantly became overwhelmed by the sense that they did not want the leave the island and they wanted to stay and eat the delicious lotus fruits. Odysseus was wise and did not eat the lotus fruit and he tried to snap his men out of the effects from the drug. He eventually succeeded and freed his men from the island.
The Odyssey is an epic poem written by Homer. The poem features a the hero named Odysseus, he has many qualities such as wisdom. Odysseus uses his wisdom to save his men from an eternity on an island which they would not be able to leave. The men would stay on the island against there will, the men would not mind it though; the men would only have to eat fruit and they would stay on the island. This quality and many more that Homer gave Odysseus made him a great hero in The Odyssey.

Ancient and Modern Hero’s Characteristics and Journey

The major steps of a hero have been around for thousands of years, starting around the time of Homer, who wrote The Iliad and The Odyssey. Most stories with a hero follow the same general steps shown in Homer’s Odyssey. The steps of a hero start with the hero in his main world and eventually they find a mentor, in the end of their journey they use everything they learn to find or defeat anything they were after. The hero also has many of the similar traits found in the Odyssey, traits such as wisdom, selflessness, courage, and self sacrifice. Harry Potter is one of these stories that follow the steps of the hero also found in The Odyssey, a book written more the two thousand years ago.
In the beginning of the famous book series known as Harry Potter, the main character, Harry Potter, begins in his hometown in England and he is called to the wizard world by a character named Hagrid. In the Odyssey, Odysseus had just left the Trojan War and tries to make his way back home, but enters a “world” of gods. Odysseus also faces challenges of trying to get home. Harry also faces challenges of defeating and fending off dark forces. Harry also faces death many times trough his journey, he faces it in every one of the seven books as he tries to stop the Dark Lord Voldomort. Odysseus also faces death when he is fighting. The stories may change with the concepts and the plots, but the general journey the hero goes on is the same.
Traits of the hero have also remained the same for more than two thousand years. Both Harry Potter and Odysseus are wise in there worlds. The hero’s also put others ahead of themselves. In the end of the series Harry sacrifices himself to save the wizard world. In The Odyssey, a different kind of sacrifice occurs; the sacrifice of animals is to the gods to keep them happy and not interrupting with his journey. Most heroes from Homer’s time until now have all had the same traits from selfishness, sacrifices, and wisdom.
The first epic poem was written by Homer more than two thousand years ago named The Odyssey. The main character, Odysseus has traits such as wisdom, selflessness, sacrifices, and much more. He also follows steps in his journey to wherever he is going. Some of these steps are leaving the ordinary world that the hero knows; the hero also faces challenges on his journey. The hero also faces eleven more general steps in his journey. Stories such as Harry Potter still follow these traits and steps more than two thousand years after Homer wrote The Odyssey.

The Adventures of Jimmy

A boy named Jimmy lived in the city of Los Angeles and was an average person who lived in an apartment building in the middle of the city. He was the smartest in his class and was detained for a full college scholarship. There was one girl in Jimmy’s grade, named Julie, who he had a crush on; he was so nice and chivalrous to her. Jimmy lived with his step mother and his father but he was away for one to two months at a time because of his job. His mother was not the nicest of person; she makes Jimmy do all the chores while she sits around the house doing nothing. When Jimmy’s father returns home, he does not believe Jimmy at all, the step mother just acts so innocent.
One day, in the winter, Jimmy went for a walk in the city of Los Angeles when an earthquake began. Jimmy was scared as he was running back to his apartment. The ground in front of him began to split and he fell into the gorge. The next thing Jimmy knew, he woke up in the middle of a forest with pine trees lightly covered in snow, and a blanket of freshly white snow around him on the ground. He walked through the trees for an hour and ended up at a castle emerging from the fallen snow. He walked into the castle and walked around discovering there were thirty rooms of every kind. As Jimmy walked through the castle, the king showed up and said in an angry and loud voice, “What are you doing here, for trespassing on my land I will put a spell of obedience on you.” Jimmy could not help himself now; he had to do anything that anybody told him.
The king heard footsteps echoing from down the hall and fled. From down the hall a girl appeared and it looked like Julie, Jimmy’s crush. The two instantly recognized each other, and Julie invited him to the ball that night; because of the spell recently bestowed upon Jimmy he had no chose but to accept her invitation. As Jimmy retired to his bedroom, that was set up for him in the castle, he said quietly to himself, “how am I going to get through this ball tonight.” As he was saying, a floating ball of light appeared from nowhere and turned into a fairy god mother. With a wave of her magic wand he became dressed like a prince. As the ball progressed and Jimmy was acting weird in Julie’s eyes because he had to do anything he heard anyone ask. As the king walked by he said, “Kill her.” Jimmy grabbed a knife and began to raise it in Julie’s direction. As Jimmy was about to kill her, he overcame the spell and dropped the knife. Jimmy told that the king put a spell on him, and he was band from the kingdom and was stripped of his kinghood. The next thing Jimmy knew he woke up in his room back in Los Angeles, with nothing more than a bump on his head, making the entire thing a dream.

The Shadow Archetype in Movies and Books

An archetype is a symbol recognized by everybody around the world. Archetypes come from within us, and they speak through us. People learn to recognize archetypes at a very young age. People learn to recognize archetypes a very young age unconsciously, They are almost born within us. A psychologist who has studied archetypes said that humans have a psychic disposition and that we recognize archetypes unconsciously.

There are many types of archetypes within us and they are featured in a wide variety of books and movies. One type of archetype known as the shadow archetype was featured in the famous book and movie known as Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban. The shadow archetype exploits a persons fear but allows them to be stronger. In the movie and book there fears are shown to them in the form that will not hurt them. They use these fears to practice fighting them. When the time comes, the main character, Harry Potter uses what he has learned from his fear and is able to fight away the dementor and survive. Even if we are scared of the shadow archetype which is the fear within us, still gives us strength.

The Change in Understanding of Greek Mythology

Mythology has been around for more then two thousand years and the stories have remain the same but how we view mythology in today world has changed. Two thousand years ago people did not think mythology was myth, people believed it was history. Mythology today is stilled viewed as history but towards people of Ancient Greece, mythology started as being the understanding of the world and how it came to be, and is still alive today but it gives another understanding into a lost society.

Two thousand years ago people did not understand how the world or humans began, so they developed stories to how there life came to be. These stories are known today as mythology, but there was no myth about them to the Ancient Geeks. Mythology was a way of life for them, it's how they ate, how they would sleep, and how they lived there everyday life, Mythology was a religion for them. Ancient Greeks thought that mythology was real.

In Today's Society ,Ancient Greek mythology gives us a window into into how people lived, more then two thousand years ago, lived. Mythology contributed a lot to our society in the United States of America and in the in the English language. The temple that the Greeks built for worshiping there gods influenced the buildings for the United States government. The words and names in mythology influenced some words that we use today. Even through the Ancient Greeks have not been alive for the past two thousand years, there mythology still influences the world today.

Mythology has been around for a while but it still influences the world. People in Ancient Greece thought that mythology was the beginning of life. Today we still refer to the Ancient Greeks for words and government.  Mythology is one of the largest contributions to the modern world.

About Me

I am John Paglia, and I am a sophomore. I do track and field as a sport at school; I throw the shot put, and I also throw my favorit, the discus. I love computers, and I am a die hard Apple fan (even though I have a PC). I love how just fifty years ago a computer that could barely do a simple addition calculation needed an entire room to be in, and now a small device that is thinner than a third of an inch not only has a calculator but is able to play games, search the internet, play music and videos, and make calls fit in your pocket. Technology is not the only thing I am interested in, I am also interested in aviation. I'm not interested in small little planes with lawn mower engines, of planes that go four hundred mile per hour and can pull nine g's. I like airliners that are huge and can carry more than five hundred people and carry them across an ocean onto another continent, before the day is open. I love how a canvas and wood plane became a double decker, eight hundred passenger plane was developed a hundred years later. I love track and field, and I also like how technology evolves so fast, I also what will be around in only twenty years.
